Nya Jee Salone: My Mother Sierre leone

Nya Jee Salone - My Mother Sierra Leone
Have I arrived? This piece of work is born out of my passionate need to put my recently acquired skills in photography into practice. It explores Sierra Leone in a way that I believe many people can connect with.
Nya Jee Salone is a mere hint of the depths to which I intend to explore the photography art. It can never depict the Sierra Leone life in full, yet for me it marks the beginning of a bigger story I intend to tell one day.
Nya Jee Salone befits this work as it sets to assert the popular cliche 'women can do better what men can do'. I am one of the very few female photographers in Sierra Leone; I feel unique, and my eye for uniqueness helps me to capture interesting moments.
Reflecting on this journey, I still see shy faces turned to confident ones, edgy people become friendly. I think the feminine approach did make the difference. As a matter of fact I am of the firm conviction that the future for photography in Sierra Leone is enormous.
Night after night I have pondered over why I was previously denied access to photography. Now my small camera has become my best friend and I look forward to the day when I can progress more in photography to achieve my aims.
The challenges, my people, the culture, the attitudes, and the absurdities, were the spices needed to keep the focus. Thank God I arrived.
Francess Ngaboh-Smart.
