Welcome to the arts and activism pages. Here you will find information about upcoming events, exhibitions and projects. Art and activism at RISC is a unique project that aims to promote social justice, sustainability and actions for change through creativity.

We do this in a number of ways:

  • A Global Youth Activist group: led by young people for young people
  • Schools work: Teaching Global Citizenship through Art and Design
  • Public workshops and events
  • Exhibitions
  • Providing educational resources and Creative Professional Development for artists teachers and youth workers
  • Partnerships with local, national and international organisations

If you would like further information or would like to get involved in our work please contact shehnoor@risc.org.uk

Background

The arts are a method of communication; confronting and questioning our established systems; the inquisitive, reflective and critical observer of the relationship between the individual and their social, political, economic and natural environments.

As a development education centre we believe the arts play a valuable role in education and the mobilisation of individuals and communities: as movements for positive change, the exchange of information; as a vehicle for direct action, resisting oppression and inequalities; and to build a sustainable and equitable world.

Our approach has been to provide a space at RISC for collaboration and discourse between artists, communities and campaigners to explore issues around social justice and sustainable development: creating opportunities for positive actions for change.
