Next 3 day Global Citizenship Advocates Course:

Tues 29th May, Thurs 21st June and Weds 4th July 2012

The Course

The aim of this unique training package is to enable educators to deliver Global Citizenship effectively, so that it becomes embedded in their schools or the schools with whom they work. The Global Citizenship Advocates Course equips each participant to become a catalyst for change in their workplace.

Each course is tailored to the needs of the participants - teachers, local authority advisors, ITE tutors and students, NGOs working with teachers, and Development Education Centre staff.

A Global Citizenship Advocates Course:

• introduces the theory and practice of Global Citizenship
 • identifies opportunities for embedding issues of social justice and sustainability across the curriculum
 • explores methodologies for measuring attitudinal change
 • enables controversial issues to be tackled
 • considers how change can be achieved and sustained
 • demonstrates how Global Citizenship links with and is relevant to Every Child Matters, SEAL, Community Cohesion, Assessment for Learning, Rights Respecting Schools

The course is usually delivered on three separate days, over a number of weeks, allowing participants time to reflect on their learning and undertake activities with colleagues or pupils.

Courses have been run for:
Local Authorities, whole school staffs, South West EES Region, Local4Global EES Region, VSO, Diocese of Chichester, Rights Respecting Schools, Welsh Development Education Network Cyfanfyd, and many others.

The course was developed by Barbara Lowe, Louise Robinson, Liz Allum and Mary Young, with initial funding from Oxfam. It draws on their combined 40 years Development Education experience and reflects the expertise of its authors. Completion of the course does not entitle participants to deliver Global Citizenship Advocates courses themselves.

If you would like details of forthcoming courses, to book a place, or to discuss the delivery of a course for your school or organisation, please contact louise@risc.org.uk
