Partnership with Westminster Institute of Education, Oxford Brookes University

RISC has delivered GC training for Oxford Brookes tutors and students since our partnership began in 2003.

A day of Global Citizenship training is now an established part of the Primary PGCE Cultural Week. A lead lecture on the theory and practice of GC is followed by a selection of workshops exploring how GC can be embedded across a range of subjects (eg Design & Technology), through cross-curricular themes (eg Sustainability) and with all age groups (eg EYFS).

Ox Brookes D&T workshop

As the BEd course is re-written the opportunity is being taken to ensure GC concepts are introduced and developed throughout the three years. In the first year of the course, the importance of Global Citizenship is established, through introductory sessions at the university, and a whole subject-focused day at RISC followed up over the next term at the university. This will be built on in years 2 & 3. The impact of this GC training on students' knowledge and understanding of global issues is being monitored, to inform future planning.
