RISC organises a variety of events and exhibitions on global issues to increase public understanding of the economic, political social and environmental forces, which shape all our lives.
RISC creates a platform of speakers from the Majority World (Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Latin America). We organise workshops, feasts, films and meetings that inform people about how we can take action to create a more just, equal and sustainable word.
Arising out of project work Reading became a Fairtrade Town on 2nd February 2004 and RISC is part of the Reading Fairtrade Steering Group, which organises the Reading Fairtrade Fortnight every year. Next years theme will mark the 20th Anniversary since the launch of Fairtrade Foundation. The theme is: 'Take a Step' and will take place from 27February - 11March in 2012.

RISC is also part of Reading International Development Forum that organises the Reading International Festival in October every year. This year fiftyfive events are organised by thirtysix different groups all over Reading during the fortnight.
The 2011 theme is 'Who Owns the Global Commons?' It raises questions about who controls the water in our lakes, rivers and seas and the air we breathe. Who controls the land on which animals , vegetation and people depend? Who has the right to extract the earths' minerals or damage our ecosystem for econoic gain?
The Festival overlaps with the second part of Black History Month and The Uhuru International Film Festival events. One World Week is also included, with the theme 'Living in One World'.
Our Partnership for Change project came to an end January 2011, but you can check out Make a Difference part of the RISC Website for useful reasources linked to our events programme and the campaigns we have participated in.
The Global Café organises World Music, International films and hosts exhibitions.
