This plant is so useful - every garden should have one growing somewhere. Not only is it edible, and useful in harbal medicne to draw out infections and heal bruised and broken skin, it is an exclellent bee fodder and is also used as a chickenfeed. However it is as a plant feed and tonic that it really comes into its own. It is very deep rooted and will bring up nutrients from deep in the soil that many other plants and trees can't reach. Its rich leaves make an excellent compost, and rotted down the resulting liquor is widely regarded as an excllent all round plant tonic. Finally, if all that wasn't enough from one plant, it is an excellent slug decoy. Slugs love the wilted leaves more than almost anyting else, so a small pile next to your delicate seedlings will act as an effective decoy. |
