Schools and Groups visits
First and foremost the garden is an educational resource and an ideal source of inspiration to introduce sustainability issues into your school, project or workplace. We have worked with children and teachers of all ages and abilities from pre-school to sixth formers and adults. Over the first two years of the garden project; 2002-04 we estimate that we have talked directly to over 2000 people in the garden, and we are looking forward to a busy summer ahead this year!

All visits are by pre-arrangment, other than on our regular open days . All visitors are advised to read our health and safety notice, although it is an edible garden, certain parts of certain plants are in fact quite toxic.

The Growing our Futures roof garden project has now come to the end of its two year SEED funding - which among other things has allowed is to staff this project, if you are interested in volunteering, and especially if you are interested in working with the outgoing garden co-ordinator over the summer open days please get in touch. RISC is seeking funding for a follow on project and had every intention of maintaining this fabulous garden and making acessible as a valuable community asset. In the meantime we will maintain at least a basic program of events on the roof.

Some of the themes of the garden:

  • Plants and biodiversity
  • Organic cultivation and conservation
  • Waste minimisation and recycling
  • Renewable energy
  • Food and nutrition
  • Herbal medicine
  • Global issues
  • Citizenship issues
