RISC - Volunteer Opportunities May 2012

There are lots of volunteer opportunities available in RISC's shop, office, roof garden (open days) and other garden projects

GrApHic ArTist

We need to visually get across to people what makes a ‘global garden’ - you would need to be an experienced graphic artist and able to draw an aerial view of what a typical ‘global garden’ looks like taken from images of existing gardens. Working with RISC garden coordinators. Hours/days to be mutually arranged.

 

Garden – Food for Families

·      Volunteers are needed to do regular weekly sessions supporting our tutors in the work they do at one of the projects
For example 1hr per week at a school/ nursery/ community gardening session Volunteers will need to be CRB checked - volunteers are also needed to help staff stalls at 'action' days.

·    Volunteers are also needed to help on RISC's amazing roof garden when it is open to the public as part of the National Garden's Scheme - duties include, taking donations for tours, selling plants etc

To find out more about volunteering with the food4families project come along to RISC, room 3 at 2.30 on Wednesday 16th May. Regular induction starts at 3pm.

RISC’s Fair Trade World Shop

Volunteers are needed to serve customers, restock shelves, keep shop area clean and tidy, price-up new stock.

4 hours per week – 

Monday 1.30 - 5.30

Wednesday 9.30 - 1.30

Thursday 1.30 - 5.30

Friday 9.30 - 1.30 & 1.30 - 5.30 

Saturdays, 10 - 2 or 2 - 6. (if you are unable to commit 4 hours let us know and we can arrange hours to suit you) 

 

RISC’s Global Cafe

Quiz hosts. Tuesday evenings, once/twice a month. Compile quiz questions, read out questions and calculate winner.

Café assistant. Holder of personal license (to serve alcohol) preferred.

 

Office/Reception Duties

Answering telephone, transferring calls or taking messages. Helping with photocopying, laminating, book-binding & mail-outs.

Good Engish and attention to detail essential

Wednesday & Thursday afternoons 1.30 - 5.30

 

RISC is looking to expand the board of trustees. We especially would like to attract trustees from Black, Minority and Ethnic communities.

Trustees meet every two months six times a year. We especially would like to attract trustees with human resources/personnel/emploment law expereince.

Personal Induction and training given to all new volunteers.

All volunteers will be allocated a supervisor.
