I am
the Primary Schools specialist member of the Education Team (with
Louise and Doreen) and have been in Development Education for 20 years
and am a founder member of RISC.
We offer
a range of services to schools; Enews - a free half-termly bulletin;
with primary and secondary versions. Training - practical ideas on
how to develop a Global Dimension in your classroom, we currently
have funding from the Department for International Development (DFID)
which enables us to offer this for free. We also work with a number
of Teacher Training Institutions.
The
World in Their Hands - a handling collection of artefacts from
around the world with related storybooks and teaching packs (soon
to be on line). The particular focus for development of the collection
for 2004-5 is on Citizenship, the Islamic World and Maths.
The Resource
Centre in the World Shop - with over 9,000 titles including teaching
packs, children's fiction and non-fiction, and books for adults on
social justice and sustainable development. We are currently working
in depth with a small number of schools in Berkshire and Oxfordshire
as part of a LASER (London and South-East Region) DFID funded initiative.
These schools are committed to implementing a Global Dimension across
the curriculum, and to disseminating their expertise in the future.
I am
also working on an project "The Fabric of Our Lives" to produce exhibitions
on 3 textile traditions - Bogolan from
Mali, Block-printing from India
and Weavings from Guatemala. The first of these will be available
for (secondary) schools, museums, galleries and other venues from
January 2005.
