Catherine
World
Shop manager
I
Joined RISC as World Shop Co-ordinator in April 2002 following five
years teaching Art & Design in secondary schools. I had been a regular
customer for some years as the shop provides so many rich starting
points for creative / cultural projects. My training in Jewellery
& Silvermithing has provided me with an eye for quality and detail
which is invaluable when choosing arts & craft products for the
shop.
BAFTS
As a member of the 'British Association of Fair Trade Shops' we
buy from importers who have been monitored to ensure they fulfil
strict fair trade criteria. There are over 60 BAFTS shops across
the UK, their details are available on their website. Where possible
I visit or invite our suppliers in order to choose the best range
of products for the shop. Our product range is growing all the time
with the emphasis being on quality hand crafted products which utilise
traditional skills in the production of stylish and contemporary
designs.
Volunteering
As Shop Co-ordinator I am the only full time employed member of
staff, supported by my Co-worker Neeta
for two days a week. For all are other staffing needs we rely on
our team of volunteers. Please get in touch if you are interested
in volunteering in the shop, or would like to find out more about
fair trade.
