Education, Secondary

I've been part of RISC's Education Team (with Barbara and Doreen) since 2001, having taught in secondary schools and initial teacher education for almost 20 years.
RISC offers a range of services to schools:
Enews - a free half-termly bulletin with primary and secondary versions (see the Enews archive)

Training - practical ideas on how to develop a Global Dimension in your classroom, we currently have funding from the Department for International Development (DFID) which enables us to offer this for free. We also work with a number of Teacher Training Institutions.

'The World in Their Hands' - a handling collection of artefacts from around the world with related storybooks and teaching packs. (the resource collection will be searchable via an on-line searchable database soon!) The particular focus for development of the collection for 2004-5 is on Citizenship, the Islamic World and Maths.

The Resource Centre in the World Shop - with over 9,000 titles including teaching packs, children's fiction and non-fiction, and books for adults on social justice and sustainable development.
We are currently working in depth with a small number of schools in Berkshire and Oxfordshire as part of a LASER (London and South-East Region) DFID funded initiative. These schools are committed to implementing a Global Dimension across the curriculum, and to disseminating their expertise in the future.

We also produce resources for teachers and youth workers, many of them focusing on trade issues and Fair Trade. If you would like more information on any of this work, or would like to support our work through volunteering, please email me at louise@risc.org.uk
