Roof Garden - Have a look at the garden pages for a bit more detail about the project but simply the garden is a wonderful and unique addition to the RISC facilities. Designed as a tool to highlight sustainability issues, it is also just a beautiful island of colour and tranquility in the middle of the busy city . It is a teaching resource, its an inspirational meeting space, its a bountiful edible garden, its an optimistic statement about partnership with the environment, and lovely place to eat your sarnies at lunch time. The roof garden is maintained by a team of volunteers and open the last weekend of every month informally, or anytime by arrangement. Website - Updates, changes or inclusions to this site, please get in touch About Steve: I joined the RISC collective in 2002, but actually my connections with the organisation go as far back as 1985 when I first worked on the World Education Berkshire project. I became the bus driver of the education bus and education worker focussing on issues such as South Africa, hunger in Africa and trade and debt. I have a degree in development and am a trained business studies and economics teacher. I have gone on to specialise in sustainable development and environmental issues. I worked at the Centre for Alternative Technology for 7 years as well as acting as membership secretary for the Permaculture Association. I have lived and travelled extensively in Africa, India and North America, nowerdays I am based in North Wales. Update: with the 'Growing our Futures' project completed I am no longer a member of the collective, although I am still linked to the project in an advisory capacity and still do some guided tours. Other interests and passions include housing co-ops, gardening, hill walking, wolverhampton wanderers, the internet, music and cooking. |
