New Venture: Zero-Waste Shop

We are working on an exciting new project; re-modelling the back of the café to bring a zero-waste shop to central Reading, a welcome addition to the RISC family, currently comprising the Development Education Team, Events, The Permaculture Roof Garden, Food 4 Families, The World Shop, Meeting Rooms & Offices, Global Café & Kitchen.

Inspired by the growing zero-waste movement, we are passionate about enabling our local community to reduce the amount of single use plastics trashing our planet.

The real drive came from the images of plastic accumulating on beaches, filling the oceans, and piling up landfills in mostly 'majority world' countries. We’ve been driven towards this throw-away culture and it’s high time we turned around!

Ready your reusable containers - refills are arriving in October!

We're pleased to announce that we'll be opening our doors at the beginning of October.

Global Refills will offer a range of approximately 100 fair trade, organic or locally produced food and household items. Our dispensers will be filled with wholefoods, including pulses, nuts, seeds, dried fruits, cereals, a range of pastas and rice. Behind the counter, we’ll be selling household liquids to be dispensed into your own bottles, things like laundry liquid, washing up liquid, hand soap, shampoo and conditioner. We also hope to offer the largest range of fair trade wines in Berkshire as well as all the local and global drinks already available at the Cafe.

You will be able to re-fill your empty bottles of:
